Supporting communities across the UK and Bangladesh
Abdul Giash Spice Bazzar Foundation supports disadvantaged people and helps improve lives through practical community projects in the UK and Bangladesh.
Rooted in Leicester and shaped by strong links with Bangladesh, the foundation works across education, clean water, community care, food support, health-related support, Islamic burial support and grassroots collaboration.
The foundation is currently being established as a UK charity with five trustees, building on years of charitable work led by Abdul Giash and the wider Spice Bazzar community.
Practical support where it is needed most
The work of the foundation is built around a simple aim: to support disadvantaged people and improve people’s lives.
In the UK, this includes ongoing support for the Army Benevolent Fund and Age Concern Leicester Shire & Rutland, as well as community food support for local schools, churches, mosques and healthcare workers.
In Bangladesh, the foundation’s main projects include an orphanage in Sylhet, a 2,500-well clean water project, and MBCOS – Muslim Burial Council of Sylhet, a free Islamic burial support service for local residents.
Our impact
£100,000+ raised for the Army Benevolent Fund
The foundation has raised more than £100,000 for the Army Benevolent Fund, supporting the charity’s work with soldiers, veterans and their families.
£1,000 per month for Age Concern
The foundation has provided £1,000 in monthly support to Age Concern Leicester Shire & Rutland since the Covid period, with that support continuing today.
400 children supported in Sylhet
The orphanage in the East Shahi Eidgah / TB Gate area of Sylhet currently supports 400 children, with education provided through the Bangladesh curriculum in Bangla and English up to age 16.
2,500-well clean water project
The foundation is working on a 2,500-well clean water project across Bangladesh. So far, 500 wells have been completed, with a further 2,000 planned over the next two to three years.
Our Work in Bangladesh
The Bangladesh projects are central to the foundation’s work. Each project is supported locally by a 16-person committee, helping ensure the work is managed by people who understand the needs of the community.
Sylhet orphanage
The orphanage in Sylhet provides care and education for 400 children, giving young people from disadvantaged backgrounds access to support, structure and opportunity.
Clean Water Wells
The water well project began in Sylhet and is now working towards wider coverage across Bangladesh, helping provide clean water for poorer communities.
MBCOS
MBCOS – Muslim Burial Council of Sylhet provides free Islamic burial support for local residents. The service includes washing and shrouding, burial clothing, cold storage and ambulance transport to the cemetery.

The foundation’s UK work supports charities, local communities and people facing difficult circumstances across Leicester, Leicestershire and beyond.
Army Benevolent Fund
The foundation has raised more than £100,000 for the Army Benevolent Fund, supporting the charity’s work with soldiers, veterans and their families.
This ongoing support reflects the foundation’s wider commitment to standing alongside organisations that help people through hardship, transition and long-term need.
Age Concern Leicester Shire & Rutland
Since the Covid period, the foundation has provided £1,000 in monthly support to Age Concern Leicester Shire & Rutland.
This ongoing support helps the organisation continue its work with older people across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
Local school and community food support
The foundation supports three local schools by helping provide meals for children and families in the community.
During the Covid period, Abdul and the Spice Bazzar team also supplied food to hospital staff, churches and mosques, helping support frontline workers and local communities during a challenging time.

The foundation’s work has been recognised by community organisations, schools, public representatives and partner groups in the UK and Bangladesh.
Letters of support and thanks have highlighted Abdul Giash’s long-standing commitment to charitable work, local community support, projects in Bangladesh and the role of Spice Bazzar in bringing people together.
